We loved The DEV and we love Tim Schram so of course we love whatever he does. His latest venture is P2 Shows, a booking and promotion venture “occasionally bringing live music & events to Utica, NY.” We gave Tim & P2 the reigns in booking music for the 2nd Annual Downtown Getdown.
Tim has put together a great lineup for the Music Showcase this Saturday from 12-4pm in Franklin Square Alley!
12-12:45pm: Auld Lang Syne
Recent transplants to Utica, Auld Lang Syne has taken their music across the country, having opened for such acts as the Avett Brothers. With an ever changing line-up, Timothy and Kathy Dick create a unique vision of Americana music, both timeless and relevant, at the same time ethereal and gritty. Most recently joined by a staple to the Utica music scene, J. Schnitt on bass!
1-1:45pm: Our Common Roots
Unlike their name, the foundation of this band is born of an eclectic collection of very different voices. Each individual’s style has found its place in creating a truly unique, but somehow familiar sound, which throws neon psychedelic lights through the warm glow of a more classic folky style rock music. Much like the circus from which they draw inspiration for their first album, each member stars in their own act, with their own flare, all housed under the big top tent that is Our Common Roots.
The musical project of Utica native Connor Benincasa, (now based in Philadelphia), Comfy brings an eclectic mix of jangly pop and angsty rock & roll. With an energetic live show & catchy hoooks, Comfy’s music has garnered the attention of national publications such as Rolling Stone magazine, who nominated their 2014 release “Pillowhugger” one of the top 10 cassette releases of the year.
3-3:45pm: the real burnouts
the real burnouts are a Utica staple as much as they are an enigma. Brain child of Paul Crowther and taking various forms over the years since 1997. Who’s to say what or who will appear when the real burnouts take the stage?
Four hours and four great bands with strong ties to Utica. So stop down to Franklin Square Alley on Saturday from 12-4pm to check out the P2 Music Showcase. It’s just one part of a great event also including vendors, kids activities, snacks and sweet, a dunk tank and more.
And thank you to Tim and to all the bands who have donated their time to make the Downtown Getdown that much more awesome!
